Communities and Local Business

Portlanders are familiar with the regular debates between neighborhood associations (such as the one that my friend Marcus lives in) and corporate businesses. It's always been my belief that Portland's melange of neighborhoods give our city its unique character.

Strong citizen involvement in neighborhoods and our city's desire to preserve local heritage has paid off. Anyone who thinks that the work of Metro and neighborhood initiatives is the work of an anti-capitalist plot should see this document on home values and price trends.

It's interesting to read that similar problems happen in other places, such as Savile Row in London.
